Josh Ladgrove is a brave man. Not only is he a man who routinely wears a red beret whilst consistently being not French, he also makes sport of pushing his audience to the very edge of their comfort zone and then he prods a little more.
His latest offering of comedic mayhem is Neal Portenza’s Test Show, which follows our acerbic protagonist as he irons out the kinks of a future show, set to premier in 2015.
Armed with just one glaring theme song and a singular prop of all trades, our eccentric host attempts to make magic out of almost nothing. Neal Portenza and his evil twin half brother Gary are always a delight, but in this latest offering we also get to see glimpses of 'the real' Ladgrove with intentional character breaks.
The 2012 Best Comedy (Melbourne Fringe Festival) award winner, Ladgrove, is as impressive an actor as he is a comedian and his quick wit is a marvel to witness. Describing his performance as "funny" doesn’t cut it; he's simply genius.
There is no excuse for comedy-goers not to see this wonderfully crafted show. Ladgrove continues to delight and abuse his audience to no end, and it’s a pleasure to be a part of. See this show, and thank me later.
