Stand-Up Sit-Down: Comics in Conversation is Dom Romeo’s interview show for comedians, by a self-confessed comedy nerd. The opening night, Romeo was joined by Claire Hooper to discuss how she accidentally fell into comedy and the phone calls which changed her life.

Romeo is the kind of interviewer every aspiring interviewer longs to be. With a few well-placed words, he inspired Hooper to recall stories and experiences long forgotten. He said little, yet that was what was required. The audience was enthralled and Romeo was truly engaged, listening to the tales of celebration and woe.

I got the sense what was shared with us was private, as Romeo carefully pushed into territory not often trodden. He posed the questions we were burning to – and a few many would never have thought to ask. Hooper was open and honest, which suited the small and intimate audience perfectly.

If you love comedy, comedians or just people telling interesting stories, go along. From the stalwart local favourites to the big-name international acts, every night will be unique. Take the plunge and book a ticket. You never know who might turn up. All you do know is that it will be worth it.
